MDC-T youths acquitted of assault charges

Four MDC-T youths from Chitungwiza who were facing charges of assaulting their Zanu-PF counterparts were yesterday acquitted of the charges.
Fanuel Kamurendo (31), his brother Tendai (26), Shelton Masamba (26) and Wilbert Ndiweni (33) denied the charges when their trial opened before magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini.
Mr Jarabini acquitted the quartet after prosecutor Mr Lovet Muringwa failed to prove a case against them. This follows the State case's inconsistencies with the only testifying witness failing to link the four to the commission of the offence.
Their Zanu-PF rivals failed to come to court to testify. This led to Mr Jarabini giving the four the benefit of the doubt and acquitted them. Allegations were that on February 20, at Ward 18 in Unit L, Chitungwiza, the four together with others still at large went to Zanu-PF offices in Ward 22 Unit O in the same area.
On arrival, they reportedly tore down posters bearing President Mugabe and the late General Solomon Mujuru's images after which they proceeded to Unit L where they fought with their Zanu-PF counterparts who later fled the scene.
