Man (26) hangs himself with a shoelace after stealing a mobile phone

A Lupane man, 26, hanged himself over the weekend using a shoelace while he was detained by police in a shop storeroom after he was arrested for stealing a mobile phone.
Matabeleland North Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Siphiwe Makonese yesterday confirmed the incident which occurred on Saturday at around 9pm in a storeroom at Bavulusinga's shop at Matambo Shopping Centre in Lupane.
"The now deceased Nkosilathi Moyo (26) of Albert Moyo's homestead under Chief Mabikwa in the Matambo area was arrested by the Neighborhood Police identified as Constable Nyika, Constable Scott Sibanda and Constable Gibson Moyo," she said.
"The police requested a room at the Matambo shopping centre to detain the now deceased while they looked for transport to take him to St Lukes police base in Lupane."
Makonese said when the constables later came to check on the now deceased, they found him hanging from a roof truss and his neck tied with a shoelace. A report was made to St Lukes police base.
