The MDC-T has all but admitted that Zimbabwe should hold harmonised elections in line with the expiry of the Seventh Parliament on June 29.
Over the past few weeks, the party has been advocating the postponement of the elections, arguing there were still outstanding issues in the Global Political Agreement.
However, the party - at the policy conference yesterday - resolved to hold primary elections starting next week in time for the national poll.
In an interview on the sidelines of the conference, MDC-T spokesman Mr Douglas Mwonzora said his party will conduct its primary elections on May 24.
He said delegates acceded to an election timetable presented by the party's national chairman, Mr Lovemore Moyo.
Although he downplayed indications his party was focusing on the national elections being held within the first half of the year, he revealed that an exercise to confirm the candidature of sitting legislators would be conducted first before the primaries.
"The national chairman, Mr Lovemore Moyo, has presented the timetable for our confirmation exercise and the primary elections. We are geared towards those two processes," he said.
"All is now set for the confirmation exercise starting on Friday next week. We are going to start with Harare, Chitungwiza and Manicaland and then other provinces will follow.
"We want to know who is going to represent us early. So, all is set for the plebiscite and the national chairman took the opportunity to explain to the delegates how the process is going to be done."
