Prophet jailed for stealing Botswana woman's car

A Self-styled Zimbabwean prophet and building contractor based in Botswana has been jailed two and half years effective for duping a 60-year-old Botswana woman into coming to Zimbabwe on the pretext of meeting a "high priest" before robbing her of her vehicle.

Aaron Ngirazi (34) had denied theft of motor vehicle charges when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa but he was convicted because of overwhelming evidence last Friday.

Mr Mupeiwa sentenced him to five years imprisonment of which two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour and a further six months on condition that he restitutes the complainant Ms Ellah Kekgathetse 3 000 Pula.

In passing sentence Mr Mupeiwa said he considered that Ngirazi was a first offender and a family man whose wife and children were in Botswana.

He said his family needed guidance in a foreign land. In aggravation he said theft of a motor vehicle was a very serious offence.
