Johannesburg - A Zimbabwean man has been sentenced to two life terms by the Limpopo High Court in Bela Bela for killing a couple on their farm, Limpopo police said on Friday.

Brighton Mafanedza - who worked as the couple's gardener - killed them in December 2010 on their farm near Dwaalboom, police spokesperson Ronel Otto said.

Their bodies were found in the trunk of their Land Cruiser on a dirt road outside Dwaalboom.

Their bodies and the car had been torched.

They were identified by the jewellery they wore, Otto said.

The couple had just returned home from Rustenburg, where they had gone Christmas shopping with their three daughters.

When the couple did not call to say they had arrived, one of their daughters called a neighbour to investigate.

Mafanedza was sentenced on Thursday.
