A Mutare man on Tuesday left the court in stitches after he exhibited baby health cards as proof that he is the father of the two children that he sired without the knowledge of his ex-wife.
Chipo Chaongoma dragged her ex- husband James Chitaka to Mutare civil court praying for maintenance for the upkeep of their four year old child.
Chitaka told the court that he cannot afford $60 because he had two more children that he sired with another wife.
The Magistrate Mrs Sheron Chipanga asked him to produce proof that he had two more other children.
Chitaka produced two baby health cards as proof and the magistrate asked him to point out where it is written that he is the father.
"I am the father. The fact that the name of my wife is written shows that I am the father of the two children.
"I only have a birth certificate of one child and we are in the process of obtaining the other birth certificate for the other child," said Chitaka.
Chaongoma told the court that the two children that Chitaka claims belong to his brother and he does not have any other children.
"Those health cards are for his brother's children. He is claiming that he has two other children. The last time he told the court that the younger child is Moreblessing but the health card is saying Eugene," she said.
The magistrate told Chikata to pay $40 as maintenance for the upkeep of the child and she advised Chikata to bring birth certificates as proof for the downwards variation.
