Late CIO declared a national hero

The late Zanu-PF Central Committee member and Deputy Director in the President's Office, Elias Kanengoni, who died on Wednesday, has been declared a national hero.
He will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on Monday.
Kanengoni (60) was pronounced dead on arrival at West End Hospital in Harare after falling ill at his farm in Concession.
Announcing the national hero status to the family in Concession this evening, Zanu-PF National Secretary for Security, Sydney Sekeramayi said the Politburo's decision was unanimous.
Sekeramayi paid tribute to the role played by the late Kanengoni during the struggle and after independence.
He said the Cde Kanengoni's role in matters of security was above reproach.
Sekeremayi added that the national hero has left a legacy of patriotism that future generations should emulate.
He was accompanied by Zanu-PF Politburo member, Saviour Kasukuwere.
Kanengoni is survived by his wife Sarah and four children.
Mourners are gathered at his Whitecliff farm in Concession.
