A polygamous senior MDC-T official in Masvingo district on Tuesday allegedly axed to death a man he had found in a compromising position with his second wife and later committed suicide.
Cleophas Madariro (35) of Farm 224 in Mushawasha small-scale farming area, who was the MDC-T district organising secretary for Masvingo Central district, allegedly axed Charles Matavada (34) to death after he found him being intimate with Sarah Ruwode (28), his second wife.
Madariro then allegedly hanged himself from a tree near his homestead. Matavada sustained a fractured skull and died instantly.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero yesterday said the bodies of Madariro and Matavada were taken to Morgenster Mission Hospital for post-mortem.
"The bodies of the deceased two men were taken to Morgenster Mission Hospital for a post-mortem," he said.
Inspector Zhanero said on the fateful day, Madariro left his home in Mushawasha small-scale farming area in Masvingo and visited his second wife, Ruwode, who worked as a bar lady at Chesvingo business centre in Murinye communal lands.
He allegedly arrived at the business centre at around 1am and knocked on his second wife's bedroom door. He was answered back by a male voice.
The MDC-T Masvingo Central district organising secretary then demanded to know what the person was doing with his wife before he proceeded to force entry into the room.
Madariro allegedly managed to get into the room through the window as the door was locked from inside.
He allegedly found Matavada busy trying to put on his pants while his wife was naked.
Madariro's second wife managed to bolt out of the room while naked through the door prompting Matavada to also flee while wearing pants only.
However, Madariro allegedly chased after Matavada and managed to catch up with him about 30 metres away from the house. He allegedly then struck him once on the head with an axe he was carrying. Matavada died on the spot.
Madariro then returned to his home in Mushawasha where he used a rope to hang himself in a tree near his cattle pen. His body was discovered after sun rise by police from Muchakata where Ruwode had filed a report.
