AN ailing man in Chitungwiza left the court in stitches when he denied paying maintenance towards his wife of two days, accusing her of forcing him into a "pseudo marriage" taking advantage of his condition.

Lawrence Machingura bared it all at the Chitungwiza magistrates civil court after his wife applied for US$600 maintenance for her upkeep.

Machingura accused Melody Kadzere of conniving with her friend to wed them while he was on death bed.

"Your Worship, I have been experiencing some blackouts and did not know what was going on. This woman took advantage of the situation and hired a car with her friends and organised a wedding that I do not even know how it happened," he said.

Machingura further told the court that he was staying at Kadzere's friend's house when all this happened.

He claimed to have been introduced to her only for two days by the friend.

He said he never had conjugal rights with Kadzere and had already applied to declare their marriage nullified.

The case was postponed to June 3 by  magistrate Ms Nomsa Sabarauta.
