Police in Mashonaland East reportedly launched a manhunt for two brothers from Uzumba who allegedly evaded arrest after being cornered for cultivating 10 000 plants of cannabis.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Bulisani Bhebhe said told NewsDay that the suspects - Cosmas and Togarasei Mazwienzara of Katsande village in Uzumba - allegedly fled as police invaded their cannabis hideout on May 23.
Before the raid, police had received a tip-off that villagers in the area had turned the illegal drug into one of their main commercial crops.
They went on to arrest Bernard Mazwienzara and recovered 2 610 dagga plants from his garden and while they were closing on the other suspects, they were outmanoeuvred but managed to recovered a total of 10 963 plants with an average height of 1,5 metres each.
