Zanu-PF youths request quota in Parliament

Zanu-PF youths have requested their party leadership to consider young women during the distribution of the 60 seats reserved for women in Parliament.
The youths resolved this at the Indigenisation National Youth Workshop in Bulawayo last Friday, where they decided to participate in the forthcoming elections not only as voters but as candidates as well.
Deputy Secretary for Administration in the Youth League, Varaidzo Mupunga said they were advocating, that for every six seats out of the 60 seats reserved for women they get two seats.
"The ratio we are advocating for young women in the parliamentary seats is 4:2, which means we get two seats out of every six seats.
"We are lobbying that the senior women reserve seats for younger women in the party to achieve proportional representation," she said.
Political commissar in the Zanu-PF Youth League, Mike Gava said of the 60 seats reserved for females, younger women needed to be part of it.
"Since we have young women who are progressive, it would be a good idea for the leadership to consider them for some of the seats reserved for women in the constitution," Gava said.
