President Mugabe has promoted nine Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Squadron Leaders to the rank of Wing Commander.

Mugabe, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces promoted the senior officers after they distinguished themselves in executing their duties.

The Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal Perrance Shiri conferred the officers with their new ranks in Harare last week.

"Your dedication and loyalty to duty convinced us to recommend you to the Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for promotion.

"So do not take this promotion lightly as the nation expects you to execute this responsibility and apply yourselves diligently," he said.

Air Marshal Shiri also said that the newly promoted officers should carry out their duties diligently and uphold the country's values.

In line with the AFZ's thrust of enhancing the role of women, Mugabe also promoted Sinikiwe Matambudza to wing commander as an addition to an ever growing female contingent in the AFZ.

The newly promoted officers will be deployed to different AFZ directorates where they are expected to lead junior officers and non-commissioned officers in defending the country's air space.

The other senior officers promoted to the rank of wing commander are Nyasha Mudenge, George Ngadya, Henry Ngungubu Sithole, Cephas Hakuzari Tafirenyika, Reggie Mubata, Victor Madzinga Zvobgo, Gilbert Tangai and Clever Kangwengwe.
