A Harare woman has been successfully sued for over R10,000 after taunting another woman over her HIV status.
Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of HIV incidence in the world, with around one in seven locals believed to be HIV-positive.
This was one of the first cases of its kind in Zimbabwe and could set a precedent.
Both women live in Harare's northern township of Mabvuku.
The complainant said she was taunted twice in front of her relatives and friends because she took anti-retroviral medication.
Harare's civil court ruled that she was a victim of discrimination and awarded her US$1,500 and legal costs for the case.
Her payout is at least five times the average monthly salary in Zimbabwe.
