A 67 year old Harare man has been slammed by a Harare magistrate for failing to pay maintenance for his children.
Ndangu Chamangwiza, a driver with a local transport company, had bragged in court that he was paying maintenance for five other children, hence can only pay $50 instead of $70 as directed by the court.
Harare magistrate, Anita Tshuma said Chamanwiza is an irresponsible person despite the fact that he is supposed to be a role model to the society since he is an elderly person.
Chamangwiza was therefore sentenced to one month in prison and suspended the sentence on condition that he pays US$200 to the complainant before the 21st of this month.
