A 26-YEAR-OLD Masvingo Polytechnic student has been fined $100 or 30 days in prison for assaulting a commercial sex worker he had hired.

Mushangwe of 2275 Mubvamaropa Street in Rujeko C pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate Ms Lyn Manyika on Wednesday.

However, he was convicted after overwhelming evidence.

For the State, Mr James Murambiza said on 1 June at about 11pm, Mushangwe went to Rujeko Beerhall popularly known as Marry Me.

At the beerhall he approached Sibongile Sibanda, a commercial sex worker and asked to have a "short time", with her.

She agreed on a fee of $5.

The two then went to Sibanda's lodgings, a short distance from the beerhall.

At the house the two had sex, but Sibanda started complaining that Mushangwe was taking too long yet his money was just for a short time.

The court was told that Sibanda told her client that if he wanted to have more time with her he should double the figure but Mushangwe kept on insisting that the $5 was enough.

A misunderstanding ensued between the two and they stopped being intimate.

Mushangwe angrily pushed Sibanda to the wall and twisted her arm while demanding his $5 back.

Sibanda handed back the money and Mushangwe left for his home.

After the incident Sibanda went to Rujeko police base to report the matter, leading to Mushangwe's arrest.

Sibanda went to the hospital where it was discovered that she sustained a fracture of humerus (break of the left arm bone) as a result of the assault.

A medical report was produced in court as an exhibit.
