Two brothers in Gokwe were last week sentenced to 10 years in prison for brutally assaulting their 63-year-old father following a land dispute.
Four years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Musa (28) and Kudakwashe Rukuni (29) of Makotore area had pleaded not guilty to attempted murder when they appeared before Gokwe-Kwekwe regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo.
It is the State's case that on December 22 last year, Musa, Kudakwashe and their father, Mr Chibaya Rukuni, were drinking beer at Makotore Business Centre.
The three had a misunderstanding over a piece of land which the two brothers were demanding control of.
An argument ensued, resulting in the sons teaming up to assault Mr Rukuni. The two fled after their father fell unconscious.
Mr Rukuni was taken to Gokwe Hospital where it was discovered that he had sustained internal head injuries that affected his brain.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the two brothers.
Mr Robert Ndlala prosecuted.
