Radio Zimbabwe producer and presenter Cain Chikosha was last week arraigned before the Mbare Magistrates' Court to answer to charges of indecently assaulting a female workmate.

Chikosha (49) is accused of demanding to have sex with the complainant on a sofa in his office before indecently assaulting her after she turned down his advances. Chikosha, who is referred to as The Chief, at his workplace, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before magistrate Mr Reuben Mukavhi.

Prosecutor Farai Madanhire told the court that on May 17 this year the complainant, who works at ZBC Mbare Studios, went to Chikosha's office to follow up on a tape she had submitted for a process known as fast tracking.

It is alleged that the Radio Zimbabwe breakfast show presenter demanded sex with his workmate in order for him to fast track the tape. The lady is said to have turned down Chikosha's advances, a development that allegedly saw her workmate f*ndling her breasts and massaging her body with the intention of arousing her.

The complainant told the court that Chikosha ordered her not to come to his office unless she was ready to have sex with him.

"The chief said I was supposed to have sex with him for my tape to be fast tracked. After I turned down his request, he grabbed my shoulder and I shouted at him. He then went on to f*ndle my breasts and said I should not come to his office if I was not prepared for sex. He said to me 'tanga wandipa makumbo pasofa apa kuti tape rako rifambe. Usadzoke futi muoffice mangu kana usingadi kufara neni' (qala unginikeze inyawo esofeni lapha ukuze itape yakho ihambe)(Get intimate with me on the sofa if you want your tape to be fast tracked. Don't come back here if you don't want to enjoy with me)," she said.

After the incident, the lady is said to have lodged a complaint with a ZBC administration officer who called in Chikosha to give his side of the story. During the meeting, Chikosha is said to have apologised for his actions. However, one of the supervisors reportedly advised the lady to make a police report, leading to Chikosha's arrest.

In his defence, Chikosha denied indecently assaulting his workmate, claiming that he only advised her that he wanted to listen to the tape in the company of his production team.

Magistrate Mukavhi remanded Chikosha to July 1 on $50 bail, ordered him not to interfere with witnesses and to report to Mbare Police Station every Friday.
