A 28-YEAR-OLD Chipinge man allegedly teamed up with his brother to hack their stepmother with a machete following a dispute. Ben Sithole of Chief Mutema's area appeared before Mr Makamera Waini last Friday for allegedly murdering Sheila Simango together with his brother Witness who is still at large.

Prosecuting, Mr Thembalami Dhliwayo, said on May 23 at Mutetwa homestead in Chief Mutema's area, the accused teamed up with his brother and went to their father's homestead a short distance from where they stayed.

"Ben and Witness went to their father's homestead and upon arrival a quarrel ensued between Sheila Simango, wife to their father and Bongani Mtetwa. Ben and Witness were accusing Simango of unleashing evil spirits that were haunting them.

The quarrel degenerated into a fistfight and the two started bashing Simango with logs and open hands. They hacked her with a machete thrice on her body once on the back and twice on the head. They left her for dead.

Their father's effort to intervene was in vain as the two shoved the aged man away," said Mr Dhliwayo.

Neighbours, who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and found her lying in a pool of blood. They ferried her to Chipinge District Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mtetwa is expected back in court on June 14 for routine remand.
