The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) says it is important to educate members of the public on the negative effects of stealing copper cables as it is affecting provision of electricity in some parts of the country.
The authority's Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Gloria Magombo said there is an increase in vandalism of copper cables which has resulted in some areas going for weeks without electricity supplies.
Engineer Magombo urged Zimbabweans to desist from draining oil from transformers as it poses a risk to their lives and others.
She said last year four people were electrocuted while trying to drain oil from transformers.
