A 26-year-old Gokwe man, Mathias Phiri, has been arrested after he was caught red-handed 'raping' a donkey, police said.

Phiri, from Kuruwa Village under Chief Nemangwe, was reportedly caught on 14 May.

He is said to have been caught by the owner of the donkey in the wee hours. This was after the owner, Andrew Mukwenya, laid an ambush for Phiri after getting a tip-off that he was in the habit of raping with donkeys.

It is reported that on the day in question, Phiri as usual proceeded to Mukwenya's kraal and while inside, he took off his trousers. He then seized a female donkeys before committing bestiality.

As he was enjoying himself, turning the domestic animal into his beloved wife, Mukwenya, who was hiding nearby, ran towards him. Noticing that he had been busted, Phiri probably hurt his long and charged 'hosepipe' as he quickly withdrew it out of the donkey's sexual organ and bolted away, leaving Mukwenya bewildered.

The owner of the 'raped' donkey, tried in vain to run after him but Phiri made good his escape. Mukwenya headed back to his homestead.

The following day, he took the matter up with the police. The alleged donkey 'rapist' was arrested days later and hauled before Gokwe magistrate, Mr Shepherd Mjanja, facing a charge of bestiality.

He however, pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody on US$50 bail.
