A Harare man has dragged his wife to court claiming that she attempted to stab him with a knife after reportedly catching her red-handed canoodling with another man.
Kandemiri Tamuka on Thursday brought his wife Tarisai Magore before the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order, following the alleged stab attempt. The confrontation reportedly took place at their matrimonial home.
Magore threatened to cause Tamuka's disappearance for moving out of their matrimonial home and for refusing to make peace with her, the court heard.
"When I caught her with a boyfriend at our house, she chased me with a knife intending to hurt me. I managed to escape and she started sending me text messages threatening to cause my disappearance. She instructed me to leave the country," Tamuka told the court.
He said he was phoned by strangers intending to meet him at the instance of Makore.
"I could not meet them because I feared for my life. Magore called me one Saturday morning and told me to look for a gang that would come to pick me up that evening. Fortunately, I was in Bulawayo at that time but I was later informed by family members that several men with cars had surrounded our house, demanding to see me. She later came to my workplace and started shouting, intending to embarrass me and cause violence. I made a police report and she was arrested," he added.
Responding to the shocking claims, Magore claimed she only called Tamuka intending to formally end the relationship. Interestingly, she NEVER denied being caught cheating, however she only denied running after her husband wielding a knife.
"I never followed him with a knife and I called him because I wanted him to follow proper channels if he doesn't want me anymore. On my contrary, his relatives are the ones who were in the habit of assaulting me," she said.
Magistrate Tatenda Manhanzva postponed ruling to allow Tamuka and Magore to present evidence which confirm previous incidences of violence between the two.
"In order to achieve justice with the application, I need reports from police which indicate that the applicant has been violent," Manhanzva said.
