Zimbabweans today (Sunday) joins the rest of Africa in commemorating the Day of the African child.
All African countries which are members of the African Union (AU) commemorate the day on the 16th of June every year.
The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the 1976 uprising in Soweto, South Africa where dozens of children were killed.
Among others, the day presents an opportunity to reflect on the living realities of children in Africa.
The 2013 theme for the Day of the African Child is 'Eliminating Harmful Social, Cultural and Economic Practices Affecting Children, Our Collective Responsibility.'
