A CHIREDZI man was at the weekend allegedly fatally struck with an iron bar by a fellow villager following a dispute over wild honey.

Enock Chauke (19) of Wasara Ranch was found lying in a pool of blood by villagers near the place where the two men had stumbled upon wild honey while herding cattle.

Police yesterday said they had since launched a manhunt for Sydney Zvechirimo also aged 19. Zvechirimo, who is on the run, allegedly killed Chauke following an argument over how to share the honey.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said Chauke's body was taken to Chiredzi district hospital for a post-mortem.

He said they were looking for Zvechirimo, who has since fled from the village.

"We are still looking for the suspect who murdered a fellow villager by striking him with an iron bar apparently after a dispute over how they were supposed to share the honey the two had stumbled upon and extracted from the ground at Wasara Ranch," said Inspector Zhanero.

The pair allegedly started digging for the wild honey, which they collected and started sharing.
However, a misunderstanding arose between the two over how they were supposed to share the honey, resulting in Zvechirimo striking Chauke with an iron bar several times on the head.

Chauke collapsed and died on the spot while Sydney Zvechirimo went on to collect the honey and fled from the scene with the loot.
