HARARE - A 17-year-old boy who attempted to rape a 34-year-old woman in a secluded footpath has been arraigned before the courts.
The boy, whose name has been withheld due to his age, has been remanded in the custody of his mother.
The court heard that on June 7 this year, the woman was walking along a footpath from a granary to Kuwadzana 7 enroute to church.
When the woman passed the teenager, who was walking on the opposite side, she was startled when he pounced on her.
The boy allegedly grabbed her by the neck and choked her.
It is the State's case that the minor pressed the woman's eyes with one hand while trying to remove her underwear with the other.
Prosecutor Junior Mugebe said the boy tripped the woman but they continued to wrestle each other.
Allegations are that during the scuffle, the boy scratched the woman's private parts, before the woman squeezed his testicles until he let her go.
The minor then ran away but was apprehended by people in a nearby field who heard the cries of the woman.
Magistrate Tendai Mahwe remanded the minor to June 24.
