The Zanu-PF Politburo is yet to receive official communication from the party's Mashonaland Central provincial committee on the request to declare Guruve South legislator and former Cabinet Minister Edward Chindori Chininga a national hero.
Secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa confirmed the development yesterday.
"We have not yet received a letter from them. If we receive we will act accordingly. At the moment I am in Manicaland and will check tomorrow," he said.
Mashonaland Central Zanu-PF provincial chairman Dickson Mafios said they wrote the letter last Friday.
"We have made our recommendation and things will begin to take picture tomorrow (today) as we will be coming from the weekend," he said.
Chindori-Chininga died on the spot when he overshot a T-junction on the Guruve-Mvurwi road before ramming a tree.
He was 58.
Chindori Chininga, a member of the parliamentary portfolio committee on mines and energy, served as the Minister of Mines and Mining Development between 2000 and 2004. Before that he had been the Deputy Minister of Mines, Environment and Tourism from 1995 to 2000.
Chininga was the chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy and the Chairman of the Stakeholders Committee of the Parliamentary Select Committee on the new Constitution.
He once served as the Zimbabwe Tourist Development Director (Southern Africa) and worked as the director for the Zimbabwe tourism offices in New York.
He is survived by a wife and three children.
