Cop accused of biting wife's tongue in a conciliatory kiss

A 33-YEAR-OLD police officer based at Support Unit Headquarters in Chikurubi allegedly bit off part of his wife's tongue in what was meant to be a conciliatory kiss following a domestic dispute.
The police officer, Obert Muzenda, pleaded not guilty to a charge of domestic violence when he appeared before Harare magistrate Anita Tshuma. Judgement will be delivered today.
Prosecutor Francisca Mukumbiri alleged that on June 17 this year at around 5pm, the complainant, Petrola Muzenda (24), scrolled down conversations in her husband's mobile phone and discovered that he was having an extra-marital affair.
When Petrola - a teacher at Oriel High School, allegedly confronted him demanding an explanation, Obert allegedly admitted to cheating on her and asked for forgiveness.
Obert is alleged to have asked his wife for a kiss as a sign of love to seal the forgiveness, and she responded through suggestive action. It was then that Muzenda allegedly bit his wife's tongue, resulting in the outer upper skin of her tongue peeling off.
The complainant was taken to hospital, after which a report was made to the police, leading to Muzenda's arrest.
In his defence, Obert denied the charge and insisted that his wife hurt her own tongue using a scissors. He also said he was unhappy because Petrola had been denying him conjugal rights.
