A-25-YEAR-old Masvingo man has been ordered to perform 210 hours of community service while his 17-year-old cousin got a wholly suspended sentence for engaging in a sexual relationship.
The man and the girl pleaded not guilty to a charge of incest but were convicted by Masvingo magistrate, Lyn Manyika due to overwhelming evidence.
The man was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment of which six months were conditionally suspended for five years.
The remaining six months were further suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Gunikuni High School.
The girl was sentenced to six months, which were wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The prosecutor, Ms Nancy Makuvese said sometime in May, the man proposed love to the girl while they were at their homestead and she agreed. The two were staying together.
The court was told that the two had sex on several occasions.
They were, however, caught on 16 June by a relative while being intimate in the man's bedroom hut.
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the pair.
