A 47-year-old Macheke man was last week fatally struck with a brick on the head following a dispute at a bottle store.

Lovemore Macheka of plot 47 Home Park Farm died on the spot after he was struck with a brick on the head by

Experiot Machiri (29) in a drunken brawl over shutting the bottle store door.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Bulisani Bhebhe confirmed the incident, saying they had since arrested Machiri in connection with murder.

"We received a report following the death of Macheka, who died on Monday after he was struck with a brick by Machiri, following a dispute over closing the bottle store door and we have so far arrested Macheka who is assisting with investigations," said Insp Bhebhe.

It is alleged that on June 24 at around 8.15pm both Machiri and Macheka were drinking beer at Home Park bottle store.

While in the bottle store it is reported that Machiri stood up and proceeded to close the bottle store door complaining about bad weather.

This did not go down well with Macheka, who wanted the door to remain open, leading to a misunderstanding between the two.

As the argument went on it is alleged that Macheka walked out of the bottle store and Machiri followed him.

After a while Macheka returned with Machiri following behind him this time holding a brick in his hand.

It is reported that while in the bottle store Machiri struck Macheka with the brick on the head.

Macheka fell to the ground and started vomiting before he died on the spot.

A report was made at Macheke police station.

The police details who attended the scene immediately arrested Machiri.

Macheka's body was taken to Marondera hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Insp Bhebhe appealed to members of the public to seek amicable ways of solving their disputes in order to avoid loss of life.

He also urged liquor operators to stick to proper operating times and avoid operating after normal hours to avoid such cases.
