A BEATRICE man was seriously scalded on the chest and cheek with boiling water for disturbing love-birds.

Simbarashe Simango (18) of plot number 5 in Beatrice on June 12 and at around 8pm was having quality time with his girlfriend Agnes Marere sitting around a fire.

Simango was boiling his bath water when Victor Langton (28) of the same area arrived holding a beer container.

Upon arrival, he inquired on the whereabouts of his uncle from Marere, who resides next door to him.

Marere told him that his uncle had gone to Harare.

Langton went on to inquire of one Juliana, who also resides close to his uncle's house, but Marere said she did not know the person. Irked by Marere's attitude, Langton started shaking his beer in front of the couple, resulting in it splashing in Simango's face.

In a fit of rage, Simango took a tin of boiling water from the fire and scalded Langton and sped from the scene.

Langton sustained severe burns on his chest and cheek.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.

Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini sentenced Simango to 15 months in prison but set aside five months on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining 10 months were wholly suspended on condition he completes 350 hours of community service at Beatrice Police Station.

Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
