The Constitutional Court has ruled that the harmonised elections should be held on the 31st of this month, dismissing Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's appeal which sought the extension of the election date.

In his appeal, Mr Tsvangirai represented by Advocate Uriri was arguing that the Presidential Powers Temporary Measures Act, which were used to enact Statutory Instrument 86 of 2013 is unconstitutional.

President Mugabe has since proclaimed the 31st of July 2013 as the date for the holding of the harmonised elections.

He proclaimed the date in compliance with the Constitutional Court ruling which provided that elections should be held not later than the 31st of this month.

The nomination courts to receive and accept candidates for the harmonised elections set on the 28th of June.
