The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) launched its election manifesto on Sunday.

But the party complained that state television refused to broadcast the launch unless it paid R1.7 million.

Media reforms were one of the key unmet demands of the MDC.

The MDC approached the state broadcaster to ask for live coverage for its manifesto launch as was given to President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF at the launch of its manifesto on Friday.

The paper claims the broadcaster wrote back with a quote for R1.7 million.

MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has written back to the broadcaster saying he does not believe his party is being treated fairly.

Zimbabwe will hold its general elections on 31 July.
