Effective utilisation of land and boosting of production can be a major source of capital to fund Zimbabwe's economic growth and industrialisation.

For many industrialised countries there was a time when their economies went through the agricultural revolution.

Agriculture remains the pillar of Zimbabwe and other African countries' economies as they march towards industrialisation.

The sector plays a big role in providing raw materials for many industries and other downstream sectors.

Through the land reform programme, Zimbabweans have been empowered through the sale of horticultural products and the production of tobacco which is raking in millions of dollars.

Vice President Joyce Mujuru says land is the basis of all empowerment for the nations and the answer to many problems facing the country in terms of unemployment.

Though many farmers received funding for the development of irrigation and the provision of inputs in the early years of the Land Reform Programme in 2000, such support dried up during the tenure of the inclusive government.

However analysts say the country needs a more serious approach in supporting agriculture which still remains the economy's back bone.
