Rapist gets 35 years behind bars

A Harare man who raped and infected his landlord's two grandchildren with HIV has been jailed for an effective 35 years.
The man was also convicted of indecently assaulting another seven-year-old from the same community.
Regional magistrate Ms Fadzai Mthombeni had no kind words for the rapist she sentenced to 40 years imprisonment of which five years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The State proved that sometime last year the man asked the first minor's aunt to let her sleep in his room while he was going to work.
One day, the man left for work and handed the keys to the complainant's aunt who later instructed the minor to sleep in his room.
The girl went and slept in the room, together with the aunt's child who is also 10-years-old.
The first minor slept on the bed while the other one slept on the floor.
Later that night the man returned home and went to his bed to sleep.
He woke up and told the minor to take off her clothes while fondling her body before raping her.
