MDC-T has formally written to regional bloc Sadc for recourse saying the July 31 poll was "illegal" as it was foisted on Zimbabwe by President Mugabe in utter disregard of the rule of law and international sense.
MDC-T secretary general Tendai Biti said yesterday Mugabe's unilateral declaration that general elections would be held on July 31 ignored the role of the legislature which was supposed to pass Electoral Act amendments
Meanwhile the Herald claims that Zimbabwe has managed to comply with the Sadc Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic elections as preparations for the July 31 harmonised election gathers momentum, a senior official in the Attorney General's Office said yesterday.
Deputy Attorney General (Legislative Drafting) Nelson Dias told journalists at a media workshop on election reporting that Zimbabwe had adhered to all 10 Sadc principles governing democratic elections.
