Special voting for people who will be deployed to carry out duties on the polling day away from their wards started this morning (Sunday) across the country.

The special voting will be conducted today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday) and the ballots will be put in the custody of the Chief Elections Officer and his Provincial Elections Officer who will account for the total number on counting and collation of the results in each ward.

The ballots will be transported from the polling stations to the Chief Elections Officer and then to the wards in tamper proof envelopes that are going to be sealed in the presence of all political parties' election agents who will append their signatures on the seal.

If the people authorised to vote on the special voting days fail to do so, they lose their right to vote on the ordinary polling day.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, (ZEC) says the special voting for Bulawayo province commenced later than scheduled.

ZEC Bulawayo Provincial Elections Officer, Innocent Ncube said the ballot papers arrived late; hence the delays in the commencement of the voting process.

Mr Ncube said the voting started after 12pm adding that the closing time at the special voting polling station will be adjusted to accommodate all voters.

Bulawayo province has four polling centres for the special voting which are Nketa primary school, Magwegwe Hall, Emakhandeni secondary and Large City Hall.

The special vote is meant for members of the security services and others like ZEC officials who will be on duty on the 31st of July when the rest of the nation cast their ballots.

According to ZBC News by midday today (Sunday) the special voting process had not yet started in the 18 district centres of Matabeleland North province owing to delays in the arrival of voting material.

Police officers who had arrived as early as 7am were still milling around the centres by midday.

Matabeleland North Provincial Elections Officer, Mark Ndlovu said materials arrived in Bulawayo late.

Ndlovu told ZBC News before midday that they were dispatching teams with material to the various district centres.

He said to minimise further delay, teams from Binga and Hwange were the first to be served given the long distances that must be covered.
