ZAPU launches election campaign in Harare

The Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (ZAPU) has launched its election campaign in Harare with its manifesto premised on the need to bring accountability, fight corruption and the full implementation of the concept of devolution.
ZAPU, which agreed on an electoral pact with the MDC-N, launched its party campaign in Harare at a poorly attended rally.
In an interview on the sidelines of the campaign launch, ZAPU President, Dumiso Dabengwa said their party manifesto is hinged on the need for the state to be accountable to the public while focusing on the concept of devolution so that all the other marginalised areas can be governed by the provincial council.
"We have a clear roadmap for the campaign trail. We want accountability of the state to the public so that resources are used to benefit the majority. The concept of devolution as enunciated in the new constitution is also our trump card. We want areas to develop equally through the concept of the devolution," said Dr Dabengwa.
The coalition between ZAPU and MDC-N has been widely viewed as a Matabeleland alliance based on tribal alliance but Dr Dabengwa refuted these claims, saying they agreed to form an alliance with the Professor Welshman Ncube led MDC because they have the same ideologies.
ZAPU has rallied behind Professor Ncube as their presidential candidate while they have fielded candidates in other constituencies.
According to the agreement, MDC-N will support ZAPU candidates in those constituencies where they have not fielded any and ZAPU will also do the same.
