Special voting chaos spells doom for Zimbabwe

The chaotic special voting days for Zimbabwe's security forces on Sunday and Monday could be a precursor to a sham national election on July 31 that would spell doom for the troubled nation, a senior MDC-T official has said.
Party deputy national organising secretary Abednicho Bhebhe said he was appalled by the chaos that marred the voting process.
"Reports from most areas indicate that this event important as it should be has been turned into a circus. Surely you can see that the future of Zimbabwe is being taken for granted by certain people who have selfish ends to meet," Bhebhe took to his Facebook profile.
"There were also reports that voting had not started in many polling stations across the country by 6pm yesterday due to late delivery of materials as well.
"For such an institution (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) that has been running for the past nine years such gross miscalculation and lack of fore sight that is retrogressive in the country's development is totally unacceptable."
Bhebhe who is also MDC-T national assembly candidate for Nkayi South constituency said ZEC had failed to carry out its obligation to the people, "which is to prepare for, conducting and supervising all Elections in Zimbabwe and referendums amongst a plethora of other things, that they certainly are not doing.
"If ZEC cannot efficiently run a voting process for a population which consist less than a quarter of the electorate what more the total number?"
Bhebhe said the developments were disheartening, "to a people who are hopeful for a better and brighter future for the country after the elections. One is forced to predict nothing but doom and shattered dreams if no one intervenes."
