President Robert Mugabe has expressed confidence that his Zanu-PF party would get support from the members of the apostolic sect in the coming elections.
Addressing a star rally in Chitungwiza Township, outside Harare on Tuesday, Mugabe who attended a Johane Marange Apostolic sect pass over in Manicaland last Saturday said the sect had guaranteed him of their vote.
"We were in Manicaland were the members of the apostolic sect assured us of their vote. We want to thank the apostolic sect for rallying behind our party and we are confident of victory with their support," said Mugabe.
"We are one people, although we belong to different Christian beliefs, we remain united as Zimbabweans. The members of the apostolic sect have agreed to come and work with us."
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports indicate that four Zanu-PF died while scores were injured in a stampede at the rally.
No comment could be obtained from Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo.
Witnesses said the four party supporters died as they jostled to get out of the venue after Mugabe's address.
