MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has threatened to punish war veterans, traditional leaders and some Government officials if he is elected into office in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

He accused war veterans and traditional leaders of victimising his supporters. "Here in Mberengwa we know there is a problem of one Biggie Chitoro. When elected into power, we will be asking him how many people he has killed. Mhosva haivori," said Tsvangirai.

He accused re-elected president of the Chiefs' Council Chief Fortune Charumbira of segregating his party supporters.

"In Masvingo there is Chief Charumbira who says you cannot hold MDC meetings in my jurisdiction. That is going to stop when we are in Government," said Mr Tsvangirai while addressing party supporters at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.

Mr Tsvangirai addressed rallies in Mberengwa and Zvishavane yesterday.  During his address at both rallies, he singled out Mberengwa-based war veteran leader, Biggie Chitoro whom he accused of terrorising his supporters in previous elections.

He also fingered Chief Charumbira for denying his party supporters permission to hold meetings and access to donor-sourced food.  He accused traditional leaders of dabbling in party politics. Tsvangirai also threatened to arrest some Government officials.

"We will be asking them to account for their wealth because some of them got rich overnight. We will bring some of them to justice," he said.

Tsvangirai said the MDC's agenda will be to form a government that is accountable to the people and adopt a zero tolerance to corruption in all the pillars of government.

"We will not be like Zanu PF ministers who have been in government for 33 years and are corrupt but have not been dismissed," President Tsvangirai said.

"The MDC will not recycle and have deadwood.  Those that are corrupt in the MDC will be fired," he said.

He called for the decentralisation of essential services such as acquiring birth certificates, IDs and passports.

"These documents should not be processed in Harare alone.  That is why we are in support of devolution of power," said Tsvangirai.

On fears that Zanu PF, a party staring defeat at the hands of the MDC, will rig the next elections through an Israeli company called Nikuv, Tsvangirai said the MDC was now more vigilant and will not allow Zanu PF to steal the election.

He said it will be a serious indictment if the people of Zimbabwe were to vote for a 90 year old man to serve the country for another five year term and urged traditional leaders to be non-partisan in accordance with the new Constitution.

"Traditional leaders should be non-partisan and should refuse to be used by Zanu PF to abuse their subjects.  Traditional leaders should be like senior citizens and custodians of our culture and values so that they earn the respect of the people," said Tsvangirai.

Tomorrow, Tsvangirai will hold another star rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
