As a sign of desperation on state controlled media, they are reporting that some sources within the MDC-T party revealed that donors and other western sponsors have teamed up with Biti and Chamisa in a long term plot to replace Mr. Tsvangirai at the helm at the party.
The plan, according to sources, has already seen Nelson Chamisa positioning himself to the powerful post of organising secretary, one closer to taking over from Biti as Secretary-General.
Under this new plan to oust Mr. Tsvangirai, the party's current Secretary General, Tendai Biti, is reported to have become the favoured candidate to take over from Mr. Tsvangirai, with Chamisa, whom he is allegedly working with, expected to succeed Biti at the party's next congress.
The Tsvangirai-led party is reported to be seriously haunted by the aftermath of the recent congress that was marred by factionalism, chaos, violence and serious divisions along tribal lines.
Engineer Mudzuri, who for many years had been seen as a threat to Mr. Tsvangirai, fell to his lowest after losing to Chamisa at the Bulawayo congress, this coming after he was fired from cabinet post as minister of Energy and Power Development in a mini-reshuffle by Mr. Tsvangirai last year.
The ascendancy of the Biti and Chamisa alliance against Tsvangirai is being illustrated by the fact that Chamisa easily beat Mudzuri, while Biti is said to be now in control of most grassroots structures in the party through his loyalists.
The Makones also fought tooth and nail, with wife Theresa retaining her Women's Assembly chair post.
The family, which is a significant financial player in the party, is reported to have fallen out with Mr. Tsvangirai and want him out.
Observers say the British-sponsored party's faces a cold war that could tear it apart again.
The MDC-T split in 2005 over whether or not to participate in senate elections.
