Zimbabwe peaceful, Chinamasa tells AU

Justice and Legal Affairs Minister, Patrick Chinamasa has told the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that Zimbabwe is peaceful and has the capacity to hold free and fair elections on the 31st of this month.
Speaking during the 385th meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council, Minister Chinamasa said it is clear that detractors are aiming to stop elections as witnessed by special voting experiences and the SADC meeting held in Maputo.
Meanwhile, the AU Peace and Security Council of the African Union, meeting which was held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia this Friday has released a communiqué on Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mali and Togo.
On Zimbabwe, the council called on all political stakeholders in the country to maintain the prevailing peaceful environment in the run up to the harmonised elections set for the 31st of this month.
The council further saluted the African Union Commission for deploying long-term election observers to Zimbabwe and Togo.
The African Union Commission Chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is expected in Harare next week while former Nigerian Leader, General Olusegun Obasanjo will lead the AU observer team.
