War vet jailed for impregnating daughter

Phibion Muchena (64) a war veteran and a retired captain in the Zimbabwe national army in Masvingo was this week slapped with a 10 year jail for raping and impregnating his 15 year old daughter.
Appearing before a Masvingo magistrate Dorothy Mwanyisa, Muchena pleaded not guilty, but was however convicted after a full trial. Facts as presented in court are that Muchena would take advantage of the absence of his wife who is a cross border trader to bed the minor since last year.
The court heard that Muchena would call the minor before asking her to sleep in his bedroom in order to ensure no evil could harm her since her mother was away.
The former member of the uniformed forces then forced himself on the minor arguing it was his way of expressing his undying love towards his daughter and no-one should be told about their relationship He also promised to buy his daughter a car as her 18th birthday present if she did expose the abuse.
The issue came to light when Muchena's wife examined the daughter and discovered that she was pregnant and upon being questioned pointed out her father as responsible, and a police report was made leading to his arrest.
A medical report was produced in court as evidence. In his defence Muchena had stunned the court when he said he was being framed by his wife as their relationship was waning out and that she wanted to fix him in order she could benefit from the wealth that he had created.
He was however convicted after a full trial; Nancy Makuvise appeared for the state.
