MDC-T leader Dr Morgan Tsvangirai has threatened to announce poll results himself once the July 31 harmonised elections are finished.

Dr Tsvangirai, who was addressing his thousands of his party supporters at the showgrounds in Domboshava on Friday, alleged the results of the 2002 and 2008 elections were rigged.

The MDC-T president said to avoid the same situation happening, once the July 31 harmonised elections are concluded, he will announce the results himself and declare himself Zimbabwe's president.

Under Section 66a of the Electoral Act, the unofficial declaration of elections results is a criminal offence.

The law stipulates that presidential election results should be announced by the Chief Elections Officer.

Dr Tsvangirai also promised that primary schools will be free while university and tertiary students will be assisted with loans.

The rally was held to garner support for Mr Ian Makone, the MDC-T house of assembly candidate for Goromonzi West constituency.

Mr Makone will be battling for the seat with Beatrice Nyamupinga of Zanu-PF.
