An 18-year-old Chisumbanje man is on the run after he allegedly fatally assaulted his drunken brother with a log.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda last week disclosed they are keen to interrogate Daniel Ngomonde of Musambi Village under Chief
Garahwa over the death of his 32-year-old brother Tinotenda.
On July 14 a drunken Tinotenda is said to have returned home and asked his brother about the whereabouts of his wife Shylet Mutombeni.
Daniel allegedly told his brother that Shylet was not home as she had gone to attend a memorial service in the same area.
However, Tinotenda is said to have gone on to find his wife asleep in their bedroom.
"When he found his wife in the bedroom the deceased is said to have started assaulting her, a development that forced his young brothers Daniel and Win to come and investigate. Taking advantage of the presence of the pair Shylet escaped from the bedroom.
"After unsuccessfully trying to catch up with his wife Tinotenda is said to have started assaulting Daniel, who allegedly picked up a log and hit his brother in the stomach with it. Tinotenda died on the spot," said Insp Chananda.
After the assault Daniel is said to have disappeared from home while Tinotenda's body was taken to St Peter's Hospital for a post-mortem which established that he died as a result of the attack.
Insp Chananda disclosed that they have since launched a manhunt for Daniel and called on members of the public who might have information leading to his arrest to contact their nearest police station.
He also warned members of the public against engaging in domestic violence, adding that individuals must seek advice from community leaders and the police to avoid loss of life.
