US envoy hopes for democratic transition

United States ambassador to Zimbabwe Bruce Wharton has said he is hoping for a democratic transition, saying it is important not to pre-judge elections in Zimbabwe.
The US and European Union are not sending observer teams to Zimbabwe for the July 31 poll because they were not invited by the government, but the respective embassies are seconding staff to observe the vote.
However, Wharton said he supports the Sadc team that constitutes the largest chunk of foreign observers.
