Voting has been extended until midnight, as thousands still remain in queues to vote in this year's presidential and parliamentary elections.

BBC Africa reported that because of long queues, voting was extended for five hours.

Polls had been due to close at 19:00, but due to high volumes of people still queuing at 18:00, election officials have extended the voting time for people still in the queue.

But although many are determined to make their mark, CBC News reported that at some polling stations people have been turned away because of an issue with their registration slips.

Rita Makarau, chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission told CBC News that the commission admitted that administrative, logistical and funding problems had hindered voting arrangements but had said earlier that they had been mostly resolved.
