There are rumors running rounds in Zimbabwe that, in bid to contain growing factionalism and pacify some of its supporters who have threatened to leave en masse after the national congress, the MDC-T is mooting the establishment of a council of elders which will accommodate some of the party's founding members such as Engineer Elias Mudzuri who left Bulawayo, reduced to an ordinary card carrying member.

It is reported that the party is now doing fire fighting and has now mooted the establishment of a council of elders which will accommodate such members as former Harare Executive Mayor Engineer Elias Mudzuri who lost his post to Nelson Chamisa.

Sources within MDC-T say the idea of setting up a council of elders is being pursued in an effort to pacify some supporters in Matabeleland and Masvingo who are not happy with the current status quo where their favourite leaders were demoted.

The council of elders as the sources claim will have a role of just rubber stamping decisions by the party's top six.

The likes of Engineer Elias Mudzuri, Thamsanqa Mahlangu, Njabuliso Mguni, Editor Matamisa and other provincial executive members who lost their posts in the run-up to the congress will be in such a council.

Contacted for a comment, Engineer Elias Mudzuri said he was not aware of such developments adding that he is playing his political cards close to his chest.

Newly elected MDC-T national spokesperson Mr. Douglas Mwonzora said he was ignorant on the matter.
