Election observers to release findings Friday
02 Aug 2013 at 05:24hrs | Views
The two main regional observer missions to Zimbabwe, Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) will on Friday release their findings on whether the country's Wednesday elections were credible.
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has already said the elections were a farce and did not meet the SADC and AU standards for credible, free and fair election.
Western nations have said they will take a cue from SADC findings on the elections to decide on future relations with the country.
The United Nations (UN) is remaining mum on Zimbabwe's general elections for now. This despite views from the opposition MDC and local observer groups that the vote is seriously compromised.
Unofficial reports suggest a good showing for Zanu-PF in parliamentary elections as well. UN Spokesperson, Martin Nesirky says they're monitoring developments.
Nesirky says: "The UN is not on the ground with regard to those elections. It is aware of the various reports that are coming out after the voting took place and I know that my colleagues in the department of political affairs are closely monitoring that and once have an update from them I'd be very happy to let others hear about that too."
