A paedophile Gutu police constabulary (32) has been jailed for 18 years for sodomising six boys aged between nine and 11 as punishment for bullying others while herding cattle.

Police constabulary Oliver Manzunzu of Village 5 in the Widgeon resettlement area was jailed for 20 years but Gutu regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.

Manzunzu was convicted of 12 counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Mr Mbobo convicted Manzunzu on his own plea of guilty after he admitted to have abused the six boys - all from Widgeon Resettlement area - two times each between March and April this year.

Manzunzu stunned the court, when in mitigation, he pleaded for a leniency arguing that he was under the influence of evil spirits when he committed the offences.

Charges against Manzunzu arose sometime between March and April this year in the Widgeon Resettlement area when he received a complaint from some boys herding cattle in the area that they were being bullied by fellow herd boys.

Manzunzu confronted the six boys who were accused of bullying and threatened to deal with them since he was a police constabulary.

During that period, Manzunzu would waylay each of the six boys and summon them to a secluded place in the grazing areas where he would sodomise them.

He sodomised each of the six boys two times.

After abusing them, he would threaten them that if they reported the matter they would be jailed for bullying.

The offence only came to light after parents of one of the victims noted that their son was finding it difficult to walk and when they confronted the boy, he implicated Manzunzu leading to his arrest.

Mr Richard Mapolisa appeared for the State.
