A 38-year-old Bulawayo man who allegedly raped a local woman at knifepoint was arrested when he was found hiding under a bed in his mother's bedroom.
George Nkomo of Ntabazinduna Flats in Barbourfields, Zimbabwe, was not asked to plead to rape charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Abednico Ndebele yesterday.
He was remanded in custody to 8 August.
The prosecutor, Mr Malvern Nzombe, said on 24 July at about 2am, the complainant was at local sports bar when he was approached by Nkomo who pretended that he wanted to hire her musical dance group to perform at a function, which he had organised.
The court was told that Nkomo then asked the woman to follow him outside on the understanding that he intended to finalise the arrangement with her.
However, while outside, Nkomo bungled the complainant into a taxi, which was parked in front of the sports bar and they drove to his house in Barbourfields.
The court was told that on arrival at his home, Nkomo forced the complainant into his bedroom where he ordered her to remove her clothes at knifepoint before allegedly raping her.
Soon after committing the alleged offence, Nkomo released the woman and she proceeded to the police station and reported the matter to the police.
Nkomo was arrested two days later where he was found hiding under a bed in his mother's bedroom.
